About
Ballet Theatre Malaysia
WHO WE ARE.
Malaysia is home to numerous ballet schools that provide training for young dancers. However, until now, there has been no avenue for those wishing to progress further and pursue ballet professionally. The accepted path has often been to seek training abroad, either through scholarships, sponsorships, or parental support. For many, these opportunities are not accessible, and as a result, much talent has remained untapped. Ballet Theatre Malaysia was founded to change that.
Established in 2020 by Datin Jane Lew, Choong Wan Chin, and Rachel Chew, Ballet Theatre Malaysia (BTM) is the country’s first professional ballet company.
OUR AIM.
-
To establish a professional-standard ballet company that meets the needs of local dancers.
-
To achieve international recognition in the ballet scene through high-quality productions.
To realise these aims, we brought together two essential components: the “hardware” — a physical theatre, and the “software” — experienced artistic and production personnel.
This combination is vital for developing local talent while also providing returning dancers with a home-stage on which to build their future.
OUR MISSION.
To create a viable and sustainable career pathway for local students aspiring to become professional dancers in Malaysia.
